DISHA- A resource centre for the disabled is a premier non-profit organization started 16 years back, in 1995, with 18 children, today having the strength of 200 children, with a noble purpose of helping those who are differently abled.

Disha deals with neurological, mental and physical disabilities like Mentally Challenged, Cerebral Palsy, Neurological Impairment, Slow Learner, Autistic as well as those who have developed behavioral problems.

A. Achievement Highlights

Mr. G. N. Palriwala, Trustee, SMPF visited Disha in early 2008 and was touched by the dedicated efforts made by the institute towards impacting the lives of the disabled. Mr. Palriwala, who is known for his kindness and generosity, showed keen interest in the works of Disha and offered to support children from poor socio-economic background. 
 
SMPF sponsored ten students for the year 2008-09 and then increased it to fifteen from next session onwards.

DISHA could change the lives of 15 poor students with continuous support received from SMPF. These students have received education from the Special Educators of Disha and their physical and mental abilities are far better now due to the different therapies received. They have done well in sports and art & craft activities. It will be appropriate to mention here some of the outstanding achievements of the students sponsored by SMPF as noted below:

  1. Ashok Chaudhary  - After receiving support during first year showed miraculous improvement, is now taking education in a main stream school.
  2. Ujjwal Joshi has been promoted to academics. He has also received state award in a painting competition.
  3. Rishi Gehlot was wheel chair bound and now walking with support.
  4. Akshay Saini has been promoted to learn Vocation in Work Training Unit and his progress is very encouraging.
  5. Nandini Gour is an example of outstanding performances. She has been promoted to academics. In three years time she has come to 5th grade. Her dramatic skills, public speaking and painting skills are above average. She has received many prizes in painting competitions.
  6. Aditi Mittal, after passing her 5th grade, has been promoted to pre vocational centre.
  7. Garvit Agrawal has shown keen interest in sports. He has also been promoted to pre vocational centre. His confidence level has improved substantially.

Disha is extremely grateful to SMPF for providing continuous financial support which has improved the quality of life of 15 students of the centre, and realizing the mission of Disha which aims at creating a society of equal opportunities for all. We would extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sh. G N Palriwala whose vision of helping the lesser privileged has changed the lives of hundreds of such people who are living dignified lives because of Mr. Palriwala’s compassion and kindness.
