DISHA- A resource centre for the disabled is a premier non-profit organization started 16 years back, in 1995, with 18 children, today having the strength of 200 children, with a noble purpose of helping those who are differently abled.
Disha deals with neurological, mental and physical disabilities like Mentally Challenged, Cerebral Palsy, Neurological Impairment, Slow Learner, Autistic as well as those who have developed behavioral problems.
Mr. G. N. Palriwala, Trustee, SMPF visited Disha in early 2008 and was touched by the dedicated efforts made by the institute towards impacting the lives of the disabled. Mr. Palriwala, who is known for his kindness and generosity, showed keen interest in the works of Disha and offered to support children from poor socio-economic background.
SMPF sponsored ten students for the year 2008-09 and then increased it to fifteen from next session onwards.
DISHA could change the lives of 15 poor students with continuous support received from SMPF. These students have received education from the Special Educators of Disha and their physical and mental abilities are far better now due to the different therapies received. They have done well in sports and art & craft activities. It will be appropriate to mention here some of the outstanding achievements of the students sponsored by SMPF as noted below:
